Genmaicha
Also known as Brown rice tea, Popcorn tea
Green tea – usually bancha or sencha – mixed with roasted brown rice. A few grains pop during roasting and look like tiny popcorn, hence the nickname "popcorn tea". A version with added matcha, matcha-iri genmaicha, is greener and stronger.
Taste
Mild and nutty, with grassy green tea and roasted rice
How we brew it
85 °C, 3 g per 200 ml, 1 minute.
Our personal recommendation – adjust it to your taste.
Cultural background
The rice once served as a filler that made tea cheaper and easier for poorer households to afford, which is why genmaicha is also called "people's tea". Korea has a very similar tea, hyeonmi-nokcha.
